Announcement
Applications for the Exotic Beam Summer School 2025 are open!
The twentieth-second Exotic Beam Summer School (EBSS) will be held at the Nuclear Science Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, from June 22-28, 2025. Applications are currently open through the school's website - https://ebss2025.lbl.gov/home/apply - They should be accompanied by a support statement from the applicant's supervisor and should be received no later than March 9th, 2025.
The aim of the school is to educate early career researchers about the excitement and challenges of rare isotope beam science. Through these schools, the research community will be able to more fully exploit the opportunities created by the state-of-the-art exotic beam facilities, such as the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, and to capitalize on other unique capabilities available for nuclear science experiments in the U.S.
A unique feature of this summer school series is the hands-on activities, where students spend their afternoons in the laboratory, learning about the techniques and instrumentation needed to carry out experiments with radioactive beams. In the mornings, lectures on a variety of topics (experimental, theoretical, and applied) will be given by experts in their fields.
EBSS2025 is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and the following laboratories: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (MSU/FRIB), and the Association for Research at University Nuclear Accelerators (ARUNA). The school, held annually, rotates among the various laboratories.
Please pass on this announcement to interested students and young researchers. The school is specifically designed for graduate students and postdocs (within two years of a PhD degree), but senior undergraduates will also be considered. As in previous years, the number of attendees will be limited to around 35-40 participants who will be selected from the pool of applicants. Lodging and board expenses for the participants will be covered by the school, but travel costs should be covered by the student's home institution.
